The Club

Secret Harbour Golf Club is an AGU affiliated category "D" golf club.  The Club is administered under traditional guidelines by the Executive and Committees, which are elected by the membership annually. Our male and female members share membership of equal status within their respective categories of membership.

History

Secret Harbour Golf Club was formed at a meeting of prospective members in early 2002.  There were forty two present at the meeting, which commissioned a steering committee to investigate the various statutory and financial requirements necessary to establish the Golf Club and to produce a plan that would best achieve those requirements.

The Club opened its 2003 season as "Surf Beach Golf Club", with Ray Pearce the inaugural President and Craig Reynolds the Captain. The first Open Day was held on the 5th of April 2003, featuring an Ambrose Pairs competition. Saturday competitions continued to be played through until Closing Day, 25th October, 2003 with a 4 Ball Better Ball event. Membership in the early days hovered around 60 with typical Saturday competitions attracting between 20 to 30 players. The first Annual Dinner was held on the 1st of November 2003.

In 2004, membership had grown to about 100 with fields averaging 35 players every Saturday. Competition sponsors were found for all Saturday Events during the season which started with the Mandurah Mail Summer Cup on 21st February 2004 and closed on 30th October. The AGM saw the Club name officially changed to "Secret Harbour Golf Club" which would better align it with our playing venue Secret Harbour Golf Links.

The 2005 season is shaping up to be even better with membership now over 140 and still increasing. The President Richard McCauley and Captain Wes Travers presiding over an expanded committee to cope with the increased workload. Again, there are sponsors for every Saturday competition, with fields now averaging 50 players and exceeding 70 on some events, necessitating a two-tee start. There are also small groups of members playing in Tuesday and Friday events, though at present the numbers are not large enough for there to be a formal competition.

Future Goals

The Club is currently impeded by restricted Tee-Off times for Saturday Events, as the number of playing members grow it will become increasingly difficult to ensure all players complete their game in daylight conditions, during the winter season. One of the tasks currently undertaken by the Committee is to obtain earlier Tee-Off times and to increase the duration of the Tee-Off window.
